A family story!

Our Story: A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence
Tracing its roots back nearly a century, Phil Larochelle Equipment Inc. is a proudly family-owned company based in Quebec City. The business was founded in 1929 by Louis-Philippe Larochelle, an electrician by trade, who—together with his father—established Garage Larochelle et Fils Enr. In its early days, the company specialized in electrical services and auto repair, and even operated as a horse-trading business. At the time, the Larochelle family could hardly have imagined they were laying the foundation for what would become a leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality, specialized truck equipment.
By the early 1950s, the business began shifting away from its original services, focusing more on truck repair and the distribution of dump bodies, hydraulic hoists, and other truck components. In 1953, the company transitioned its commercial operations to the name Phil Larochelle Equipment Inc., and by 1956, it was officially incorporated. That year marked a turning point, as the company began manufacturing its own line of equipment and launched its first in-house dump bodies under the Larochelle brand. It was also the year Louis-Philippe married Mignonne Plamondon, who would become the company’s co-founder and foundational figure.
In 1964, Phil Larochelle Equipment introduced the first V-hopper sand and salt spreader in Quebec, expanding its footprint in the provincial market. Then in 1971, the company launched the first hybrid HLS semi-trailer for excavation and road construction—an innovation that would evolve into today’s renowned Larochelle Ultra-Stable semi-trailer, a benchmark of stability and performance in the industry.
Leadership passed to the second generation in 1977, when Bernard Larochelle, Louis-Philippe’s son, took over as president. Under his guidance, the company expanded its product offerings to include a full line of snow plow equipment. Over the years, Bernard’s three children became actively involved in the business, gaining experience and skills to continue building on the company’s success.
In 2007, Bernard sold the business to his children. In 2015, Annie Larochelle, granddaughter of the founder, became company president. She now co-leads the company with Daniel Forget, former sales manager, who serves as Vice-President Sales and Finance.
While the original Garage Larochelle et Fils Enr. location in downtown Quebec City remains in operation, the company has grown exponentially. Today, Phil Larochelle Equipment operates across three facilities in the Quebec City area, staffed by a team with decades of combined industry experience. This deep well of knowledge—along with valuable input from customers—has enabled the company to develop a complete line of durable, high-performance equipment that consistently outperforms the competition.
